Sabine Sypré - Hoogbloeier

dr. of Psychology - ECHA Specialist in Gifted Education

When I look back on my life, I see a path that has led me from the world of architecture and engineering to the fascinating realm of gifted education. It all began when I was studying at Ghent University and embarked on my career as an architect-engineer. For twenty years, I passionately built and designed, until my life took an unexpected turn.

It was my four children who set me on a new journey. It quickly became clear that they were not just smart, but gifted. Their curiosity, creativity, and intense way of thinking opened my eyes to a world I had not known before.

I became increasingly interested in giftedness and decided to change the course of my career. I pursued a specialization in gifted education at Radboud University in Nijmegen and founded my own company, called Hoogbloeier. Here, I guided gifted children and their parents and trained teachers in gifted education.

But my journey didn't end there. In 2018, I was given the opportunity to begin a PhD in psychology at both Ghent University and Leuven University. My research focuses on understanding giftedness, motivation, and self-determination in young people. I collaborated on Project TALENT, a research project on the motivation of gifted students in Flanders, and conducted an intervention study on the effectiveness of a program I developed for underachieving gifted adolescents.

My mission is to bridge the gap between the worlds of giftedness and education, ensuring that every gifted child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. And although my journey may have taken unexpected turns, I am grateful for every moment and experience that has brought me here.
